Crossbows

Crossbows

This is a weapon based on the bow, featuring a horizontal bow-like assembly called a prod, which is then mounted on a stock. It shoots projectiles that are sometimes called bolts or quarrels. During medieval times, the crossbow was called by many names, most of which were derived from the word “ballista,” a torsion siege engine that looks quite a bit like a crossbow. It was far easier to train someone to use a crossbow rather than a standard type bow.

Crossbows are mainly and widely used these days for hunting game although, there are some military forces around the world that still use them.
